Set the Walkzone for an Individual School

Purpose: Define walk eligibility rules that determine whether students qualify for transportation based on distance from school.

Steps

  1. Open Schools and select a school.
  2. Navigate to Walkzone.
  3. Choose a walkzone type (Distance-based or Boundary-based).
  4. Enter the walk distance (e.g., 0.5 miles) or select a defined boundary.
    • If you want to edit the walkzone boundaries, select the walkout option and set the default miles first and save. Then select Custom in the walkzone boundary type.  You can then Edit based on the walkzone map that was created or redraw to completely redraw the walkout zone map.
    • If you click to Edit the walkzone boundaries, you will see circles that can be moved using your mouse. Click and drag the circle points to adjust the walkzone boundary as needed.
    • To draw a completely custom walkzone boundary, click on Redraw. The map will show no walkzone boundary. Zoom in to see the location to the level of detail needed. Click on the map to create the first walkzone point. Continue to add walkzone points until the boundary is correct then double-click to complete the boundary.

If you have any walkzone data which is not circular or walkzone type, it might be challenging to draw it from scratch. In this case, you can contact our support team and send the walkzone data like pictures or maps to us. Then we will convert these data into GEOJSON files and import them into EZRouting.

  • Continue until the boundary is correct. Double click to complete the boundary, then click Finish
  1. Click Save.

Tips

  • Align walkzone distances with district policy.
  • Review walkzones before assigning stops or running eligibility reports.
