Overview
If EZRouting appears to switch between sandboxes (or school years) on its own — for example, you're working in the current year's data and the site suddenly loads last year's — this article walks through the three most common causes and how to fix each one.
Symptoms
- The active sandbox or school year changes without you selecting it
- The URL flips to a different sandbox after a navigation or refresh
- Bookmarked or autofilled EZRouting URLs open the wrong school year
- Routes, vehicles, or students appear to "disappear" or revert to older data
Cause
The site itself isn't randomly switching contexts. The behavior is almost always one of three environmental causes:
- The same EZRouting account is logged in from more than one device or browser session at the same time.
- Multiple EZRouting browser windows or tabs are open — often one is minimized or in a background window the user has forgotten about — and they're pointed at different sandboxes.
- The browser cache or a saved bookmark is resolving to a URL for a previous school year's sandbox.
Solution
Work through these in order. Most customers resolve the issue at step 1 or 2.
1. Confirm only one active EZRouting session
- Sign out of EZRouting on every device and browser where it has been used recently (work laptop, home laptop, second monitor profile, etc.).
- Sign back in on the single device you want to use.
- If others on your team share the login, coordinate so only one person is signed in while you reproduce the issue.
2. Close every other EZRouting window and tab
- Check all open browser windows — including minimized windows and windows on other monitors or desktops/spaces.
- Close every EZRouting tab except the one you intend to use.
- Reload the remaining tab and confirm the sandbox/school year indicator is correct before continuing.
3. Clear the browser cache and re-bookmark the correct sandbox
If the issue persists after steps 1 and 2, a stale cached URL or bookmark is pointing at the previous school year's sandbox.
- Clear your browser cache (cached files and cookies for
ezrouting.com). - Open EZRouting fresh, sign in, and explicitly select the correct school year from the sandbox selector.
- With the correct sandbox loaded, delete any existing EZRouting bookmark.
- Bookmark the page from the address bar so the bookmark captures the current, correct URL.
- From now on, open EZRouting from the new bookmark — not from autocomplete suggestions in the address bar, which may still resolve to the old URL.
Prevention
- Use a single browser profile for EZRouting and avoid leaving multiple tabs open across windows.
- Don't share login credentials between users; concurrent logins to the same account are the most common source of this behavior.
- After a school-year rollover, re-create your EZRouting bookmark so it points at the new sandbox.
Still having issues?
If you've completed all three steps and EZRouting is still switching sandboxes, Pathwise Support can help. We'll just need to know:
- The browser and version you're using
- A short screen recording of the switch happening (if possible)
- The school year/sandbox you expect to be in vs. what you're seeing
- Whether anyone else on your team is signed in at the same time
