Walkzones

Purpose: Define walk eligibility rules that determine whether students qualify for transportation based on distance from school.

What Walkzones Control

Walkzones are used to:

  • Determine student walk vs. ride eligibility
  • Influence stop assignments
  • Support eligibility reporting

Walkzones apply at both the school configuration level and the student eligibility level.

Walkzone Types

  • Circular - Based on a circular radius in miles around the school.
    • Example: All students whose address falls within a 1.5 mile radius of the school.
  • Walkout - Based on a student's actual walk distance to the school.
    • Example: All students with a walk distance of 1.5 miles or less.
  • Custom - Custom walkzones can be drawn on the map if the above rules are not sufficient to capture all student walkers for a given school.

If a custom walkzone requires complex boundaries or would otherwise be difficult to draw on the map, you can contact our support team and send the walkzone data like pictures or maps to us. We will convert the data into GEOJSON files and import them into EZRouting.
