Audience: Transportation admins and staff
Purpose: Configure vehicle seating layouts and assign students to specific seats to manage capacity, safety, and compliance.
The EZRouting seating plan feature allows you to flexibly customize seating layouts for each vehicle. You can access this by opening a vehicle record and then opening the Seating Plan settings.
What Seating Charts Control
Seating charts are used to:
- Define total vehicle seating capacity
- Assign students to specific seats
- Support safety, compliance, and reporting requirements
Create and Edit Seating Plans
Click the Seat button to view and edit seating chart labels. From here, you can:
- Edit row numbers, column names, and label names for both the driver side and door side.
Set the number of rows and columns in the layout.
- Click directly on labels and row numbers to edit them in place.
If you don’t need a row name (such as A, B, C), you can simply delete the text and leave it blank.
You can also define seat types. For example:
- Mark seats as wheelchair seats.
- Mark seats as emergency exit seats.
- Mark a position as unavailable if there is no seat at that spot on the bus.
When you are satisfied with the seating plan, be sure to click Save to apply all changes.

- In the Search Student field, type a student’s name to find them, or select the student from the drop-down list.
- Repeat steps 4–5 until all desired seats are assigned.
- Click Save to store your seating chart changes.
Remove a Student from a Seat
- To remove a student from a seat, click the student’s name on that seat, then click the Remove icon.
Clone a Seating Chart
If you have multiple vehicles with the same layout, you can clone the seating chart instead of rebuilding it:
- Click the Clone button.
- Select the vehicles that should use this seating plan.
- Click Save.
Those vehicles will now share the same seating layout, and you can create assigned seating charts for each bus trip using the customized plan you set up.
Print a Seating Chart
- To print the seating chart, click the Print button and follow your browser or system’s print options.
Tips
