Create a Stop

Audience: Transportation admins and staff
Purpose: Create new stop locations for student pickup or drop-off.

Stops can be created by entering the stop address or by clicking the stop location on the map.

Steps to create a stop using an address

  1. Click Stops from the navigation bar.
  2. Click Add (+) in the upper-right corner.

  3. In the Stop Details window, enter:
    • Stop Name (required)
      • If you do not put anything in this field, the system will default to the address as the stop name. You can name the stop anything. The name does not have to be the address.

    • Street Address or drag the map pin to the correct location.
      • This is the actual location of the stop. You will need to put in the address, city, state, and zip for the system to geocode the stop correctly.

      • You can check that the system geocodes the stop correctly before you save. To do this, click the geocode bar to turn it dark blue. Then, click the refresh icon next to the blank Longitude and Latitude fields.

      • If you are not satisfied with where EZRouting geocoded the stop, you can change its location by using the location button. Selecting this option will allow you to change the location of the stop by clicking on the map.

    • (Optional fields) Stop Code, Description, or Category (Pickup/Drop-off/Both).
  4. Confirm latitude and longitude populate automatically.
  5. Click Save.
  6. The new stop appears on the map and in your stop list.

Steps to create a stop by clicking on the Map

This is recommended for corner stops or stops where you do not have an official address.

  1. Click Stops from the navigation bar.
  2. Click the red location button.

Once you’ve clicked that icon, you will see the following message in the top right corner of your map. This means you are ready to click on the map to create a stop.

  3. Zoom in on the map where you’d like to create a stop. The closer you are, the more accurate the location.
  4. Click on the map in the location of the stop.

Once you click on the map to create the stop, the “New Stop” window will open.
  5. Click Save to create the stop.

If you created a stop at an intersection, the stop name will be the name of the two streets that meet, and the system will automatically mark it as a corner stop.

Tips

  • Use clear naming conventions (e.g., “Elm & 3rd St – NE Corner”).
  • Verify new stops fall within school boundaries.
  • Avoid duplicates—search before adding. Duplicate stops can also be found by going to Stops tab, Filters > Possible Duplicates.
