Audience: Transportation admins and staff
Purpose: Understand what each student filter does, how filters work together, and how visualization options help analyze student distribution and routing data.
Overview of Filters
The Filter Panel in EZRouting lets you refine your student list and map views to locate specific groups of students. Each filter targets a key data field and can be combined with others for advanced data exploration.
Available Filters
| Filter | Purpose |
|---|---|
| General | Filter students by a variety of data points, including: Non-SPED, SPED, Wheelchair, Bus Aide, IEP, 504 Plan, and more |
| Riders | Filter students by their ridership or session type: Rider, Non-Rider, Not Specified, Parent/Guardian Transport, AM & PM Session, AM Bus Session, and PM Bus Session |
| Transportation Plans | Filter for students with or without Tranportation Plans |
| Bus Schedules | Filter for students by a variety of data points related to their bus schedules, inclduing: Routed, Unrouted, Partially Routed, whetehre they are routed in the AM, PM, or both, etc... |
| Ridership | See students with or without ridership information. (This filter is tied to the SafeDriver360 app.) |
| Family ID | If students are tied together with a family ID, you can search by said family ID. |
| Contacts | Filter for student with or without parent/guardian contact information. |
| Parents | Filter for students by whether or not they are tied toa parent in the parent portal. |
| Location | Displays students within or outside of school boundary lines for compliance verification, as well as other filters related to location. |
| Bus Regions | If your district is defining custom bus rregions, this is where you can find those filters. |
| Custom Regions | If your district is using custom bus regions, this is where you can find those filters. |
| Student Info | If your district is tracking medical adn equipment information, those filters are located in this section. |
| Ethnicities | If your district tracks ethnicities, you can filter for those here. |
| Custom (UDF) Fields | Applies district-specific filters based on custom data fields you’ve created. |
| School | Displays students assigned to a specific school. Use to isolate enrollment per building. |
| Grade | Shows only students in the selected grade level(s). Useful for grade-specific routing or eligibility checks. |
| Vehicles | Shows students based on the vehicle/route they are assigned to. |
Using Filters Together
- Combine filters (e.g., School = Lincoln, Grade = 6) to narrow down specific cohorts.
- Save common filter combinations for reuse under Saved Views.
- Click Reset All Filters to return to the full list.
Visualization Options
Visualization provides a geographic or analytical perspective on your filtered data.
Map View
- Displays each student as a point on the map.
- Click any point to view quick details (name, school, assigned route).
Boundary View
- Overlays district or school boundaries on the map.
- Useful for identifying zone exceptions and enrollment boundary issues.
- Combine with the Boundary Zone filter for focused analysis.
Dashboard View
- Displays student counts and breakdowns by filter type.
- Helpful for data validation and planning metrics.
Tips
- Use Visualization Options before route planning to confirm geographic accuracy.
- Check for students appearing outside their boundary zones using the Boundary View.
- Filter by Inactive students monthly to identify cleanup opportunities.
- When troubleshooting, combine Status and Route filters to spot missing assignments.
