Audience: Transportation admins and staff
Purpose: Manage and use the Family ID field to link students from the same household for shared routing and reporting.
Steps
Create a Family ID
- Open Students from the top navigation.
- Search for or open an existing student record.
- In the Student Details panel, locate the Family ID field.
- Enter a unique Family ID for the student.
- If this student needs to be linked to another student via the family ID, and you believe that ID is already attached to the other student, click the Family ID field title.
- Click Save to update the record.
Link students using Family ID
- Go to the Student Details panel for one of the students.
- Copy the student's Family ID (or create one if you haven't already).
- Go to the Student Details panel for the student you wish to link.
- Update this student’s Family ID to match the first student's Family ID.
- Click Save to update the record.
- Repeat this process for any additional students needing to be linked, ensuring you enter the same Family ID each time.
The Family ID must be identical for each student in the group.
Tips
- Use a simple naming format, such as the primary guardian’s last name followed by a number (e.g., Smith01).
- Linking students under a single Family ID enables batch schedule updates and simplifies routing review.
- Family ID also supports mass schedule copying for siblings under Assign a Bus Schedule.
